Managing today, preparing for tomorrow: Data center retrofits and expansion with liquid cooling—May 4, 2022, 3 p.m.
For years, liquid cooling has been seen as a special-purpose solution, necessary only for high-density/high-performance computing, where air cooling would be too costly or technically infeasible. But the demands being placed on today’s data centers are increasing rapidly and have positioned this once niche solution to be the primary data center cooling technology of 2022 and beyond. DC leaders must ensure their plans are developed with liquid cooling in mind and prepare to integrate it as new technologies require it. But how exactly do you prepare for the future?
This discussion addresses how operators can position themselves to retrofit or expand their operations and smoothly transition cooling strategies from air, to hybrid, to liquid to meet future demands posed by rising server energy consumption, power costs, Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) policies, and regulatory scrutiny. This session will also consider the work that ASHRAE TC 9.9 is doing to ensure interoperability of different tools when adopting immersion cooling systems.
